We all want to avoid harmful ingredients in the products we put on our skin.

We want makeup products that will look beautiful while staying on all day.

But how can we find natural makeup that won’t cost a fortune?

Let me tell you about the six nontoxic makeup brands I have found that are free of harmful ingredients and actually work.

Because you deserve makeup that looks good and is good for you.

Why Make the Switch to Natural Makeup?

While many of us are aware of the importance of natural products for our homes, it’s also crucial to be informed about the products that we wear on our skin. After learning more about the harmful ingredients lurking in my cosmetics I decided to make the switch to nontoxic makeup brands.

Making the switch has taken some time and I had to do my research. Many brands claim to be “natural” or “clean”, but still contain ingredients that are harmful to our skin and health.

For example, the ingredients listed in a popular brand of eye shadow are known to harm the immune system, cause irritation, and are linked to cancer (source). Even worse, these ingredients are persistent and linger in the body for years after exposure.

Think about it…

At what age did you start using makeup? I was 12 or 13 and I bought the cheapest brands at the drugstore (we all know Wet n’ Wild and Cover Girl were our go-to’s as teenagers). So, that is years of wearing makeup that’s filled with chemicals and unnatural ingredients.

I decided to start switching out the brands I use, for myself and for my daughter. My daughter is young and just wears it for dress up, but I want to make sure that the products she’s putting on her face are safe too.

I don’t like to spend hundreds of dollars on makeup. So, I have found a range of makeup brands that are safe, nontoxic, and affordable.

Because now is as a good time as ever to make the switch to non-toxic makeup.

How to Find Cosmetic Safety Ratings

To find which products were considered nontoxic, I used an app called Think Dirty and the EWG Skin Deep for ratings that I trust for finding safe cosmetics. If you are concerned about the ingredients that go into your makeup bag, I highly recommend you check out these sites if you are trying to live a non-toxic lifestyle.

The following brands are free of harmul ingredients, are cruelty free, and use plant-based ingredients. You will be able to feel good about the products you are putting on your skin!

The Best Nontoxic Makeup Brands

Whether it’s just a lip gloss or an entire makeup routine, I’ve got you covered with this list of natural makeup brands. I checked each of these products in the EWG database to make sure they are safe for your skin and health. I also made sure that they are in an affordable price range.

1. Eyeko London

Eyeko mascara made with coconut oil

My favorite mascara of all time is from Eyeo London. Eyeko was established in London, 1999, and provides a line of mascara, eyeliner, eye shadows, and eyebrow products. They have a line of vegan products made from plant-derived ingredients that are natural and cruelty free.

Their Beach Waterproof Mascara is formulated with coconut oil and waterproof pigments to ensure color won’t run or fade. It lengthens my lashes and stays put all day long, even during the humid summer months.

Price range: $9 – $18

2. Tarte Cosmetics

Tarte cosmetics eye shadow, mascara, and lip glass. Made with natural ingredients.

Tarte cosmetics are both high-performance AND natural. This means that every product is packed with naturally-derived ingredients. And they leave out all the bad stuff, like parabens, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, & gluten. Their brand is also certified Cruelty Free.

Their best-sellers are eye shadow and cheek palettes that are formulated with Amazonian clay (for longer wear) and mineral pigments. The shades are coordinated for you to take the guesswork out of choosing your makeup colors.

Tarte foundation’s and powders also have amazing reviews and come in a wide variety of shades.

Check out their virtual try-it on to find your products. And don’t worry if you choose the wrong shade because they accept returns with 30 days from the ship date if you are not satisfied with your purchase.

Price range: $10 – $39

3. Pacifica

Pacifica lip glass, eye sahdow, and blush. All natural and nontoxic.

Pacifica products are always clean, vegan and cruelty-free. They create clean products across all categories, from hair care to makeup that are accessible and make you feel beautiful.

I first tried Pacifica products that came in my Ipsy subscription. I love the eyeshadow shades and the long-wearing formulas – and my daughter does too! I’ve since tried their blushes and lip tints and have found that they are all great, high-quality products. I also love their fun, pretty packaging.

Prices range from $7 to $25

4. Honest Beauty

honest beauty cheek cream and lip tint - nontoxic makeup brand

The Honest brand started out with clean, natural products for babies, but has now branched out to beauty products. Their natural makeup line is made from naturally-derived ingredients and they have the best rating from the EWG.

Honest Beauty products are cruelty free, dermatologist tested, and hypoallergenic. Their eye shadow has mixed reviews, however, the cream blush and tinted lip balm have wonderful colors, are buildable, and compliment all skin tones. I just ordered the lip balm and can’t wait to try it!

Prices range from $5.99 to $21

5. W3ll People

well people natural foundation

This innovative beauty brand (pronounced “Well People”) is a leader in the clean beauty movement. This brand focuses on renewable, biodegradable, and botanically-driven ingredients like organic aloe, organic chamomile, organic green tea, algae, pearl powder, and seaweed.

W3ll Makeup is formulated in small batches and has been verified by the Environmental Working Group (EWG).

What’s awesome is that every single one of their products prioritizes the well-being of your skin first. For instance, their Foundation Stick is a plant-based formula that gives your skin a fresh, healthy glow as it rejuvenates the complexion thanks to organic Aloe Leaf extract.

Price range: $14 to $30

6. Mineral Fusion

mineral fusion natural makeup - one of the nontoxic makeup brands

Mineral Fusion began as a mineral cosmetics brand in 2007 and has since become the #1 natural cosmetic brand. They use effective, natural ingredients and make their products free of gluten, parabens, talc, artificial colors, synthetic fragrances, SLS, and phthalates. They never conduct animal testing.

My favorite product from Mineral Fusion is the Mineral SPF30 Brush-On Sun Defense. It is a transparent mineral sunscreen powder that brushes on to eliminate shine, blurs pores, and set your makeup, while warding off harmful UV rays. I love that I can brush it on to protect my skin throughout the day.

Price range: $10 to $32

Very cool, actually I’d been looking for more clean beauty brands. It’s something I’ve been promising myself I’d eventually do, but then I never know where to actually get started. So your post came very much on time 🙂 Also, powder brush SPF, so much yes!
